In this revision, you will relearn the skill of converting one unit of mass to another. To do this we shall be going through the following:
I call it the LadderGram. LadderGram is all about moving up and down the gram table to find the multiplier or divisor needed to change a particular unit of mass.
- The Basic Mass table
- The conversion Principle
- A conversion trick
Are you ready? let's get on with it, Let's do it.
The Basic Mass Table
It is very important that you learn this Basic table by heart. That means you can't afford to forget any details in it. Sing it as a song, dance while reciting it. Just make sure it's in your head. I know you can do it.
10mg = 1cg
10cg = 1dcg
10dcg = 1g
1000g = 1kilogram
1000kg = 1 Tonne
The Conversion Rule
To convert from any unit to another is very easy but you must be able to tell which of the two is bigger.
For example, if you are asked to change a gram unit to let's say milligram. To easily solve it, you must be able to tell, which is bigger between Gram and Milligram and this instance Gram is Bigger.
So you see it! Thats how it works. Super easy, isn't it? Now Let's solve some examples.
Example 1
Example 2
Alright. Let's proceed. Now I want to share something with you. It's a trick that I developed to help learners remember what number to use when converting grams. Now that you have understood the Rule, this will be easy.
The Trick
I call it the LadderGram. LadderGram is all about moving up and down the gram table to find the multiplier or divisor needed to change a particular unit of mass. Ok assuming you were asked to change an amount of kilogram to centigram.
You will have to move up from Kilogram to the gram. On the path, you will see 1000, 10, 10. This must be multiplied to give us the Multiplier we need to get the value for the Centigram.
I know you are probably still wondering about my trick. Don't worry just read on. After the examples am very sure you will understand the idea behind the trick.
Now let's solve some examples.
